Elitism vs Fascism

Terms like "elitist" and "fascist" get thrown around a lot. Because of that they are often just dismissed when used.

Basically the difference is that a fascist puts into motion and takes control against the will of those it affects. An elistist just talks about doing it because they know best. Here is Wikipedia.

  • Fascism is a political philosophy, that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition. --- Does Hugo Chavez or the “Fairness Doctrine” come to mind?
  • Elitism is the belief or attitude that a select group of people with outstanding personal abilities, intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes —are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern. ---Does anti-American fit? The American ideal is "of the people, by the people, for the people"...
  • Totalitarian is a person that believes that the state or leader should regulate nearly every aspect of public and private life.

A great example of College Fascism.

A great brief on Fascism.

Name that Tune

What's in a name. Choosing a name can make or break a company. I need a name that reflects what my website is going to be about but it can't be boring. How many people are going to inadvertently find a website called "Freedom and Responsibility".

Here are a few that I've tossed around:
  • The Conservative Coalition - too narrow and has bagage and no appeal.
  • Media Watch - While more broad than some news watch websites it is still too narrow.
  • The People's Coalition - too commie sounding and boring.
  • The Fix - presumptuous, boring, non-explanitory.
  • The Freedom... just about anything, - is really boring even though it is probably the most important concept.
  • Rights and Wrongs - hmmm, since I plan to have a daily or weekly alert about the rights that we are loosing constantly.
  • Liberty at Risk - too narrow.
  • What about the Constitution? - Important but boring.
  • The Resistance - Who would have thought that our God given constitutional rights would be under assault and be the resistance against the establishment.
  • My Mom is a Fascist - I really like this one. She doesn't consider herself one but with a series of questions I can prove it. But, like most people she is a moving target, doesn't always give consistent answers.

I would invite all to comment or give me suggestions. The general idea is to unite all those that want freedom from those that want to control us, as long as we are responsible.

Goals

I have some ideas for a website that would include weekly alerts and alerts when they happen, when we lose rights as Americans. I dont want to give it all away but each step in the process of developing this blog, and eventually a website, I would ask for ideas.

Tomorrow I will discuss the first idea.
